Maribor is the administrative capital of the Slovenian second largest region (Podravje). It was also the first Slovenian city connected to the railroad network (1844), which resulted in the industrialisation of the city – zone Melje. Built next to the railroad, with textile, chemical and food producing industry, it got mostly abandoned in the transition period 1989 – 1999, thus the area is searching for new content for its revitalisation.
